Navigating between Muscat, Nizwa and the coast, looking up restaurants, posting as you go, and calling home in the evening all fit inside five gigabytes without you watching the meter. If you do not know how much data you need for a trip to Oman, most people start here.

The price
OMR 4.500 for 5 GB over 30 days, which is OMR 0.900 a gigabyte. Prices are in Omani rial and that is the whole amount — there is nothing added afterwards. Orders are taken on WhatsApp: pick the plan, pay by card or transfer, and the QR follows in a couple of minutes.
How it compares
Short Break is 3 GB for OMR 2.900 — less data for less money, and OMR 0.967 a gigabyte. Grand Tour is 10 GB for OMR 7.900, which works out at OMR 0.790 a gigabyte. This one is OMR 0.900 a gigabyte. Bigger plans always cost less per gigabyte, so the question is only how long you are in Oman and how much of the time you will be away from WiFi.
What you get
A QR code by email and on WhatsApp, usually within two to ten minutes of payment. You add it in your phone's settings while you are still at home on WiFi; it installs and then sits dormant until you land. Validity starts the first time the eSIM carries data, so buying a week early costs you nothing.
It does not include an Omani phone number, calls or SMS. It is a second line alongside your own SIM, so your own number stays in the phone and WhatsApp keeps running on it. Calls over WhatsApp, FaceTime and Messenger all work, because those run on data.
Will your phone take it?
The handset needs eSIM support and must not be locked to a carrier. Dial *#06# — if an EID appears alongside the IMEI, the phone has an eSIM. Most iPhones from the XR onward, Samsung from the S20, and Google Pixel from the 3a will work.
